Historical NE Philadelphia

The above map is a current street overlay of the 1843 Charles Ellet map
showing the original (circa 1700) townships of Oxford, Lower Dublin,
Moreland, and Byberry (all eliminated in the 1854 City Consolidation) that
comprise today's Northeast Philadelphia. Poquessing Creek is the
northeast and east border between Philadelphia and Bucks Counties.
Tacony/Frankford Creek forms the southwest and west border with the
Northern Liberties and Olney sections of Philadelphia. The Delaware
River is the southeast boundary. Montgomery County is on the
northwest. |
